"I’ll explain after we meet up." Lockjaw added. Checking the area to make sure the Geryon is not looking at them, the two quickly moves to the next barricade. Lockjaw was the first to reach the barricade and quickly hides his presence from the time-travelling beast.
Xero was a bit far behind, sneaking as fast as he could the Geryon was about to turn around so the soldier did an evasive roll to get to the barricade, it did made a little sound due to Xero impacting to the ground a little. The Geryon turned its head to the barricade and was about to approach it, the two brothers hear the footsteps getting closer, heart pounding rapidly due to frustration but the blue flaming steed then turned to a left and shifted its attention to something else.
Letting out a relieved sigh, they now continue to enter the fortress’ doors which was near their location. Opening the door and quickly shutting it, the two were panting as if a major warfare had occurred outside but they were rather frustrated to the Geryon.
The fortress was rather silent, no enemies patrolling and whatnot, perhaps Albus did a good job on wiping them out. Proceeding to the upper floors of the fortress, Xero told the scholar to minimize his presence to avoid getting seen by the sentries.
"Albus…" Xero called out to the researcher and wanders the area for a bit, after a bit of eyeing the area, Xero was rather startled by Albus’ sudden appearance, nearly made him jump, after being startled he held his chest and breathes intensely. He then raises his finger and pointed at Albus. "That… Literally caught me off-guard." Said Xero as he was feeling a bit paranoid at the moment.
"Sorry, sorry, I could not help myself." He chuckled quietly. "How were things with the beast outside? I assume you’re fine - you’re both here in one piece after all." He looked over the brothers, a tic of concern etching across his brow.
"You all right? Should we take a short breather before we continue?"
Panting, the soldier indeed needs to take a breather, he was… Partially hyperventilating but he merely regained his composure. Letting out a sigh, he wipes some of the sweat from his head. “The creature nearly approached our position but it shifted its attention somewhere else. I thought i was about to black out there.” Said Xero who was still panting a little bit.
"Right, time to do some explaining; The Geryon was used to be a horse part of a chariot, the chariot was owned by 4 warriors who helped their army win every war possible but one day - The chariot was killed in a very intense battle. Even though the chariot was dead, one horse remained alive, the steed mourned over the death of its fellow owners and the other horses. As days passed, it continued to stay where the chariot died, it did not eat, sleep nor does any other movement… It just mourned until the day it died. It was condemned to the Underworld, where the former ruler granted the horse to travel through time, Past, Present and Future regardless. Every warrior who tried to kill it, the creature just travels back in time and memorizes every attack pattern a warrior has and uses it against them thus no one has ever killed the Geryon, making it the most feared creature in the world." Lockjaw explained at which is a very mouthful to himself, after explaining, he panted and looks like he needed a glass of water. He coughed for a little after saying those words.
Xero’s jaw was about to drop but he prevented it and shooked his head for a little before focusing his attention to his brother, patting his brother on the back just to stop him coughing. “Well, in short terms. The Geryon is deathless.” Xero shortly explained and sat on the floor just to get his breath back.
Albus offered his water canteen to Lockjaw after the lengthy and informative explanation of the creature that had caused the two such a large amount of justifiable concern. As sorry as he felt for the horse in its lifetime, he definitely did not envy its existence in the afterlife, and joined his comrades in fervently wishing to never cross paths with the demon steed.
Considering the creature for another few moments, the scholar quietly awaited Xero and Lockjaw to reinvigorate themselves and return to fronting their journey.
Lockjaw took the water canteen Albus had offered him and drank on it, letting out a relieved sigh he stands up and is ready to go. “I have a hypothesis that there are two exits in this fortress; one exit is on this floor but i cannot precisely pinpoint where it is, the second one is located in the basemen, either of them may be unlocked but i hoped that the Geryon is not waiting for us outside.” Lockjaw hypothesized, his young brother is not sure whether to agree or not due to the fact that he hates being seen by a monster that is deathless. “Alright, brother. Let’s start off with this floor.” Xero suggested since they are already on the upper parts of the fortress.
His brother nodded and heads on, the fortress is rather confusing for them most likely the fact that while they are traversing through the halls of the fortress, they hear screams of people, some of the screams are distorted and disturbing. Xero was breathing as if he was angry, perhaps due to the strange sounds. “Do… Not check… On any of these… Doors.” Warning his brother and the scholar about it since they now ended up in an area filled with doors from side to side.
Eventually, they reached a far distance on that rather disturbing influence, the soldier panted a bit before letting out a long exhale and shook his head for a moment. Lockjaw then saw a door at the end of the hall. “Look! It’s the exit!” He pointed out, merely running ahead of the two, he really wants to get out of this fortress so badly. The soldier and the scholar then followed him at which after Lockjaw reaches the door, some unknown force pushed him. “What the hell!?” He then tried it a second time at which did the same thing again. “Brother, do you know anything about this force?” Lockjaw shifting his attention to his brother and merely questioning about this unknown force. Xero then approaches the door and reaches his hand to feel its presence.
After feeling the presence, he was rather shocked as to what he felt. “This door… The door is surrounded by a curse… Like some kind of miasma, merely if we go here our bodies would… Warp and get ripped off by the miasmatic force.” Merely giving enough information about it, they now decided to head down to the basement, but upon turning around, the doors on the hall suddenly opened themselves. “So this area is also affected by this miasmatic curse.” He exclaimed before taking a single step. He then felt a presence near him that is different from any other presence he’d encountered thus far.
"Brother, give me the ‘Morbid Lantern’ ." Merely asking for the severed head that acts like a lantern, Xero’s brother hands him the lantern and charges up some power to it. "You might want to close your eyes if you don’t want to get blinded." He then unleashes a shockwave of light at which revealed an unknown monster in front of the soldier, it’s appearance is rather morbid and distorted as if the monster was exposed to the miasmatic curse. Xero kicked the monster, knocking it down, he then approaches the downed monster and stomps on its head, splattering it. Seeing more monster coming out of the opened doors, fighting them won’t do any good as they appear indefinitely. "Run! We cannot take all of them!" He shouted and charges toward the groups of enemies.
